QUNIE CORPORATION

Tokyo, Japan – March 28, 2025 – The Japanese consultancy firm, QUNIE CORPORATION (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shigeki Yamaguchi), has released a report based on recent survey on corporate sustainability efforts in procurement. The survey aims to assess the current status and challenges of sustainability initiatives in procurement department, and is structured around two key themes: (1) reduction of Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and (2) human rights due diligence (HRDD).

Key Findings (Highlights):

1. Reduction of Scope 3 GHG emissions

  • While 70% of companies reported they are able to visualize emissions from their primary and major secondary suppliers, few have extended these activities beyond tier-two suppliers.・Although 75% of companies stated that they consider the results of GHG initiatives in supplier transactions, about 50% of those visualizing Scope 3 emissions delegate the calculation methodology to their suppliers, which concerns over the transparency and accuracy of emission estimation methods.

2. Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD)

  • 87% of companies conduct HRDD on their suppliers.
  • Of those, 45% have taken further actions such as reducing transactions with suppliers that are uncooperative in HRDD initiatives.

This report highlights an overview of the current status of Japanese companies based on QUNIE’s previous interviews and surveys, along with the latest activities challenged by leading organizations and key success factors for implementing effective sustainability activities for procurement department.
